Durhl, who hails from Shreveport, Louisiana, is the eldest of three children in his family. His journey into the world of art began at a young age when his first-grade teacher recognized his talent and praised his work to another educator, igniting a spark of interest that would stay with him. After completing high school, Durhl shifted his focus to raising a family, which kept him busy for several years. However, in 2016, he rediscovered his passion for art, realizing that it had merely been dormant and needed the right encouragement (from his wife, Candice) to flourish once again determined to enhance his skills, Durhl immersed himself deeply in the art world, dedicating countless hours to watching numerous instructional videos and reading an extensive array of books focused on classical realism and the techniques employed by the old masters. Aware that art school or a formal atelier was not an option for him, he committed to rigorous self-study regimen, striving to differentiate between myths and facts while uncovering the tried-and-true methods used by living masters and researching the practices of conservators.

Durhl's relentless dedication and hard work have paid off, as he has successfully transformed what began as a personal hobby into a flourishing business. His artistic journey has not gone unnoticed, as he has been honored with numerous awards both nationally and internationally celebrating his achievements and contributions to the world of art.
